Sangria - Haiku Exercise by ~Tsume-Yamagata:iconTsume-Yamagata:

Sangría

Shadow-dark blackbird,
heading south with the sun, stirs
raindrops from the trees.

Children, backpacks full,
board the early morning bus—
swimsuits under clothes.

Golden patch of light
through the leaves warms my leg—
white gnats in the shadow.

Crabapple crushed, red
and wrinkled on the sidewalk;
peaches, fat on the tree.

A shower of stars
Perseid, blue and black;
cool grass under foot

Lightning-pink horizon;
the heavy sun sets—flashing
Zero, one, two, thunder…

Bees in the bluebell;
Columbine bloom in the shade
Cold wind sweeping on.

Author's Comments

In which it becomes apparent that I REALLY, REALLY can't write Haiku.

Unfortunately, Haiku is exactly what my poetry course is covering right now, so... This is a series of haiku that are all supposed to reflect the end of summer--hench the blackbirds, the rain, the crabapples, and the meteor shower...

I tried hard to keep the 5-7-5 syllable structure, but in some places I broke it, for grammars' [and my own] sake.

Sorry for the bad poetry?

:blush: I'm so happy that you think so!! I really didn't like them too much, and we had to read them outloud in class! *dies*

Ooh, doodling, yay!
